The new endeavor by budding restaurateurs’ and Venezuelan co-founders, Mari and Xavier Godoy, Mastrantos opened in December 2018 in Houston Heights. Inspired by a trip to Spain, the hope is to share cultures and meaningful conversations through every meal. This concept goes even further by focusing on creating multiculturally balanced dishes made with fresh and quality ingredients, served at an affordable family-friendly price.
The menu encompasses products that are individually selected and sourced from local Texas fare and all over the world. For example: flour from Southern Italy and olive oil from Spain.
Executive Chef, Tony Castillo, works to include crisp, simple and flavorful elements to minimize the use of overly processed foods. Many menu items are created daily and in full view of the customer inside the transparent Dough Lab. Croissants, biscuits, arepas, and cachitos are made from scratch by Pastry Chef, Eliu Palacios.
The notion of expressing the many different international backgrounds is not only apparent within the food, but also in the décor and layout. The process is always a part of the patron experience at Mastrantos, as the building was designed to have a fully open kitchen, allowing guests to be fully immersed in all aspects of the dining event.
In addition to the focus on worldly entrées, a wine menu is also offered. Several different styles of red, white and rosé from all over the globe, are presented “by the glass” as well as full bottles to share as a table.
Mastrantos is already a top pick for those who find themselves in the Houston, Texas area. To taste for yourself, plan a visit during their hours of operation. Breakfast is served Tuesday through Friday 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and dinner can be enjoyed Tuesday through Saturday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
