Golf “Fore” Education!

R.W. Smith & Co. hosted our 3rd annual charity golf tournament on June 9th at Torrey Pines Golf Course.  The tournament was a smashing success with a day of golf, a cocktail hour and a banquet.  We sold out with 144 golfers ranging from customers, to vendors and employee owners.  We raised $17,000 for the R.W. Smith scholarship program, exceeding last years donations by $4,000! The money raised will be allocated to students seeking degrees in culinary arts, hotel and restaurant management and food service design.

Thank you to Ken Foster, Charlene Clary, Mark Nelson, and Joe Sheriff for all there hard work in coordinating this event. Also thank you to Alexis Greenwald, Jennifer Grady, Michael Bellock, and Yoko Inokuma; for helping out the day of the event, they managed to sell all of our raffle tickets and continued to sell raffle tickets on credit.  You guys will have to fill us in on your sales technique!  Finally, thank you to purchasing for soliciting vendors for all the wonderful prizes donated for this event.

Although June gloom was in full force, the mood of the day was not dampened.  All who joined in this great cause had fun, even if it wasn’t their best game.  Cambro has already signed on to be the title sponsor for next years golf tournament. With the popularity and enthusiasm received industry wide for this event, we will continue our efforts to help and support those less fortunate achieve their dreams of working in the food service industry!
